CRC Workshop Chemicals & Lubricants

Every workshop has a shelf of aerosols, and most of them get reached for without much thought — which is how silicone spray ends up on a surface about to be painted, or a general-purpose lubricant ends up on a set of electrical contacts. CRC has been making maintenance chemicals since 1958, and the range is built around using the right product for the job rather than one can for everything. At Superspares we stock the CRC line for professional bays and home garages.

A Range Built Around Specific Jobs

CRC started life as Corrosion Reaction Consultants, and that origin still shows in how the range is organised. Rather than one multi-purpose product stretched across every application, it splits into penetrants, brake cleaners, silicone lubricants, electrical cleaners and corrosion protection — each formulated for its own surface and its own failure mode.

That matters more than it sounds. Silicone contaminates paint. Contact cleaner needs to evaporate without residue. A penetrant needs to creep into a seized thread rather than sit on top of it. Using the correct one first time is faster than doing the job twice, which is the whole argument for a range like this.

The CRC Range

Use our on-page filters to find the product for the job. Note that most CRC aerosols here are supplied as trade cartons of six.

5-56 Multi-Purpose Lubricant: The core penetrant and lubricant — frees seized fasteners, displaces moisture and protects metal from corrosion. Silicone-free, which matters if the surface will later be painted. Listed in 400g aerosol and 270g Permastraw.

Brakleen Brake Parts Cleaner: Strips brake fluid, grease and oil from brake components without leaving residue. Available in standard and non-flammable versions in 500g.

808 Silicone Spray: For rubber seals, door and boot weather strips, plastic runners and window channels — lubricates without swelling or degrading the material. Listed in 330g and 500ml.

Contact Cleaner and Battery Terminal Protector: CO contact cleaner in 350g for electrical contacts, plus battery terminal protector in 300g applied after cleaning to seal terminals against corrosion.

Aerostart and Metal Armour: Starting fluid for hard-start engines, and zinc-rich Metal Armour primer for corrosion protection on bare metal, listed in two-packs.

Alongside the CRC range, browse our wider selection of service essentials, car care products and brake pads.

Choosing the Right CRC Product

CRC is a chemical range rather than a fitment range, so the selection question is what surface you are working on, not what you drive.

For metal-on-metal, seized fasteners and moisture displacement, 5-56 is the default. For rubber and plastic — seals, weather strips, window channels — use 808 silicone instead, because a penetrant will not protect the material the way a silicone film does.

For electrical work, use the products designed for it. Contact cleaner cleans and evaporates without residue; battery terminal protector is a separate product applied after cleaning. A general-purpose lubricant is not a substitute for either.

One caution on Brakleen: always check compatibility before spraying either version onto painted or plastic components, and choose the non-flammable version if there is hot work nearby or ventilation is poor.
